Tyra grew up on a farm in a small town in North Carolina, and growing up with her grandfather she learned how to walk a dog long before riding a bicycle. After completing her degree in Human Sport Science she decided to move to The Big Apple New York City where shortly after she taking a job as a kennel Technician at a Doggie Daycare in Manhattan, she quickly realized her passion for dogs. After spending a year of working at the doggie daycare she decided to follow her passion and fulfill her dream of working of working with pets.
As the mother of a 7 year old rescued doberman pinscher, Tyra quickly learned the importance of healthy dog habits and behavior. After having had hired a dog walker for her dog Gus for a short period of 6 moths, Tyra quickly realized how detrimental untrained dog walkers can be to a dogs current training as Gus drastically backtracked in his training progression as the result bad habits learned from the hired dog walker. Tyra firmly believes that dog walking is not a minute task and requires much more experience and attention to detail than most people assume. Thus she has spent the past several years engrossed in the studies of K9 leadership and principals of obediance. For this reason, Doggish pet services places a huge emphasis on proper K9 training habits and leadership.
At Doggish, we believe that “The Walk” is a very intimate experience between the dog and pack leader therefore, in order to breed healthy habits, we adapt to your current training principals. No more leaderless walks, we provide photo updates, video updates (upon request) pee or poop updates and an overall behavior rating after each walk; our goal is much more than just opening doors and waiting for your dog potty to go potty, we believe in enlightened K9 leadership.
